Transformation Portfolio
This is a TEST grade AND 5 daily grades.
For this assignment you will use Geometer’s Sketchpad and Discovery Education Board Builder. Geometer’s Sketchpad is an interactive geometry software program for exploring geometry and other areas of mathematics. With this assignment you will be able to experiment with how transformations are done in the coordinate plane, by creating sketches, learning how to take screen shots, import pictures and resize images to create a portfolio with Board Builder. |
Part 1: Create Sketchs using Geometer's Sketchpad
- Title
- Color
- Have at least 10 points.
- List the points of your pre-image.
- Give the rule for the transformation using coordinate notation.
Part 2: Build your portfolio using Discovery Ed Board Builder
For this part of the project you will create your own electronic bulletin board using Board Builder. You will import screen shots of your transformation sketches. You will also include a description for each containing an explanation of any mathematical observations and conjectures along with how you went about transforming and creating each sketch.
- A title
- Your 5 sketches
- A paragraph description for each sketch.
- Each day you will do a different transformation picture given to you. There is one for each of the types of transformations used (Reflection, Rotation, dilation, and translation) and one transformation of your own. Each one is your daily grade for this unit.
- Plot the coordinates to create the pre-image and then use the transformation functions along with the built in tools to transform the pre-image to create dynamic images.
- Each sketch should contain:
- Title
- Color
- For your own transformation you will create a picture by drawing the pre-image using points on a coordinate graph with sketchpad. You will then use one of the types of transformations mentioned earlier to come up with a new image.
- In addition to what each sketch should have your own transformation must:
- Have at least 10 points.
- List the points of your pre-image.
- Give the rule for the transformation using coordinate notation.
